Our Mission & Vision

The mission of First Christian Church is to be a congregation that welcomes all, nurtures faith in God, cares for others and celebrates belonging to the body of Christ.  We celebrate the presence of an open table to which we invite all people so that we may be strengthened to practice mercy, do justice, and love our neighbor!

Our Core Values:

  • ACCEPTANCE OF ALL – We welcome all people to our faith community.
  • NURTURING FAITH – We strengthen our faith and grow spiritually through regular Bible study, daily prayer and worshiping God.
  • CARING FOR OTHERS – We care for others by sharing God’s love and compassion with people in our congregation and throughout the world.
  • JOY OF BELONGING – We place a high priority on helping people discover the joy of relating to one another.

Dale Matherly, Senior Minister

Rev. Dale Matherly joined our ministry team as Senior Minister on August 28, 2011.  Describing his understanding of God, Dale writes, “I believe we most fully encounter the presence of God in the sacred space between us.  So relationships and the dialogue of these relationships provide the opportunity to discover the holy in our midst.  I am passionate about hands on outreach at the local, regional, and international levels.  Such opportunities provide for new relationships with more folks, perhaps those we are least likely to call sister and brother.  In these places, near and far, the presence of God is revealed in deeper and richer ways.”

What we believe:

We are a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.  As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.

THE MISSION OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST): To be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving from our doorsteps “to the ends of the earth.”
(Acts 1:8)

THE VISION OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST):  To be a faithful, growing church, that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice.
(Micah 6:8)

THE CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST):  As members of the Christian Church, we confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.

We celebrate two ordinances instituted by Jesus Christ: Baptism and The Lord’s Supper (Communion).  We celebrate The Lord’s Supper every Sunday and during special occasions. All people are welcome to participate.
