Church History

First Christian Church began a few years prior to 1880 but was not organized or chartered until 1880.  A permanent building was constructed at 622 Topeka Boulevard in 1887,  there were 28 charter members.  In 1930 office space and an education wing were added.  In 1937, a fire heavily damaged the sanctuary.  A new fellowship hall, office space and class rooms had just been completed in 1961 when a second devastating fire destroyed the sanctuary.  The property was sold and a new location sought for the church.  Land was purchased at 1880 Gage Boulevard, where a campus style church was begun.  In 1963, three education units and a combination fellowship hall had office were completed.  In 1969 a free standing sanctuary was built.  A high rise apartment building for seniors and a daycare are now located on the campus.
