Living
in Tandem with one another! |
We are surrounded by a seemingly
ever increasing random world. Within this randomness
we can feel overwhelmed, under attack and paralyzed.
As Christians we understand reality differently. Jesus
calls us to live “in tandem” with God and one another.
When we live “in tandem” we are energized and actively
pursuing the Reign of God. We are not living randomly,
unconnected from one another and the world. We are
living in tandem with God and one another. In other
words, we’re not living randomly we’re living
“tandemly.”

FCC is once
again organizing
Disciple Bible Studies.
These Studies are valuable in deepening our
understanding of the Bible through the Scriptures, Old
and New Testaments, and the pictures of Jesus
presented by the four Gospels. Below is a short
summary of each study. More information, as well as
sign-up forms, will be included in upcoming bulletins.
BECOMING
DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY
is the foundation of the Disciple Bible Study program.
This study examines both Old and New Testaments,
emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as the
revelation of God. All persons yearn for the Word from
God--come and bring your experiences and struggles to
the Scripture.
REMEMBER WHO YOU
ARE concentrates on the
Old Testament prophets and letters of Paul to explore
the connection between memory and identity as the
people of God. The You in the title refers to
both the individual and the community. The prophets
and Paul call hearers and readers back to their God
and a sense of who we are as a people set apart.
JESUS IN THE
GOSPELS invites believers
to look at Jesus in each of the four Gospels and ask
the question, “Who is the Jesus that you see?” This
study takes and approach different from the familiar
“Life and Teaching of Jesus.” We will look at the way
each Gospel writer presents events and teachings and
at the picture of Jesus that emerges in each of the
Gospels. !

Disciples Women Fellowship Holds
Listening Sessions |
This month the women of our church
will begin holding small group meetings to discuss the
future of our DWF. We will spend time answering
questions such as: what has been accomplished for the
Lord and His church over the years, what is being
accomplished at present as an organization of service
and fellowship, and what are our plans for the next
five years? What new interests can develop into new
groups? What means the most to us regarding the
present structure and how can we strengthen it?
These small group sessions will
continue throughout this 2010-2011 year and each woman
will receive a call to spend an hour with us.
President Jo McHenry and I will appreciate your help,
your time and attention. Some of the sessions will be
held in my home and others at the church. These
listening groups will be held in the morning,
afternoon, and evenings to accommodate every woman’s
schedule.

Fourth Thursday Book Club |
Crashing
Through ,
by Robert Kurson.
Blinded in a childhood accident, Mike May never
hesitated to try anything--driving a motorcycle,
hiking alone in the woods, downhill
skiing--until the day when an ophthalmologist told him
a new stem-cell and cornea transplant could restore
his vision. As
Esquire
contributing
editor Kurson (Shadow
Divers)
tells us, the decision to have the surgery wasn’t
easy. May, always a “pioneer in his heart,” had never
really felt he was missing anything in life. The
surgery had a risks, the immuno-suppressive drug was
highly toxic, and some patients had become depressed,
unable to adjust. May went forward only to find that
even though his eye was now perfect, his brain had
forgotten how to process visual input. Fascinated by
colors and patterns, he had difficulty discerning
facial features, letters, even men from women. How May
adjusts to his medical miracle makes for a remarkable
story.
We will
meet at 6:00 pm in the Library on Thursday, August 26.
If you would like to join the discussion, pick up a
copy of the book from Ann Michel (First service, Joy
Class or phone).
We
will be reading
Angry Wives
Eating Bon Bons
in September, and in
October
The Zookeeper’s Wife.
