| First Christian Church is a growing and changing community of
Christians with a long
history in Topeka. New people
are continuously being welcomed into the fellowship and leadership
of the congregation.
People of many different denominational backgrounds are attracted to
the open and inclusive fellowship of this congregation where uniformity of belief, appearance, economic status, life style or
behavior is not required. All who seek God's will for their lives are invited to
"Come grow with us." |

Beliefs and Practices
|
| The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is an ecumenical and
evangelical fellowship of congregationally governed churches. We have no
test of fellowship other than a simple affirmation that Jesus Christ is
Savior and Lord.
Historically, our stance has been expressed in such sayings as:
"In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all
things, charity."
"We are not the only Christians but Christians only."
"Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures
are silent, we are silent."
Of course, people may differ as to the essentials, or regarding how the
Scriptures should be interpreted. Our practice is to respect the
conscience of each person, and to encourage him or her in the study of the
Bible and their pursuit of truth. |
